No, I went back out because my department was a dysfunctional mess and I hated the area. I gave the talk at a somewhat lower ranked department that is highly functional and in a better place. They had made me an offer when I first went out and I stupidly declined.
So my experience may not be representative if you are looking to move up
So you went on market then because of promising paper or just used your most promising paper in progress when u decided to move?
Thanks
When I went on the market a second time, I gave a co-authored paper that was very promising but rough around the edges. Never would have done this as a fresh Ph.D.
I think once you have an established record, the quality of the paper becomes much less important.
