Here's a thought: judge a program by the success of its grads, not their first placement.
Who are the current "stars"? Where did they go to grad school? I would assess people 7-10 years out...

He has over 100 publications... not bad. And if he is such an evil guy, how come he gets published every year multiple times?

Why bump now. Just post the real news yourself instead of trying to get someone else to do it.
Why don't you tell us what the real news is?

Uri is a super insidious guy. Be careful! Do avoid him whenever possible.
The real news is don't be a jerk to grad students and faculty at your old school.

Dogmatic thread revival much? Have you looked at Princeton placements lately?
Not amazing definitely, but better than Chicago's.... Same goes for current perception, reputation etc. I doubt there are any people turning down Princeton for Chicago these days.
In which of the last 3 years did Princeton place their students better than Chicago?
I thought so. Stop making s**t up just because of your particular feeling against an institution.
But the fact is, I'm totally unemployable
Welcome to the club, op.
Someone just shared on FB a ranking of the best paid engineering majors in my home country
http://ciudadanosenred.com.mx/cuales-las-ingenierias-mejor-pagadas-en-mexico
The best paid ones are electronic engineers making on average 14,426 Mexican pesos a month, or 9,455 USD per year.
Of course if you are really good you can make a bit more, but not a lot more (unless your daddy is rich or you have friends in polictics, which was not my case). Those were my career prospects if I hadn't gone for a PhD.
LRM programs with their 15k stipends and 40k job prospects suddenly don't look so bad.
Any updates for this conference?
No, thank you. I will pass on that. Waiting for the 10th TCD/LSE/CEPR Workshop in Development Economics.
Ibet overlordduflo will attend
You are right. They come for the money and benefit, and green card.

This is great. For $14K-40K, the US is getting a great deal on human capital. Much better for society as a whole.
This is ARE country! America First.
I am sure more of them apply to top 10 programs as well. I don't think the problem is the abundance of supply at MRM/LRMs. I simply don't understand why respectable MRM programs do this to themselves. My program was around 70% Chinese/Korean (and it is a large program) and this clearly negatively impact the environment of the program for many reasons.
And he's an IMF economist...
